About the disciplines
|The criterium is a half-mile to one-mile (1.6km) closed circuit in the center of a city, where the cyclists try to go as fast as they can for several laps. The route of our Criterium will be in the center of Ciudad Quesada, this is the main city of the Canton of San Carlos and will run through the main roads with a very challenging circuit.
|The road race is the original event of road cycling and is part of the Olympic programme. In this modality, the cyclists start the race together where the routes have different distances depending on the event. There are different types such as single-day races that are point-to-point, circuit races, and stage races. The road event of the FISU WUC Cycling San Carlos 2024 will be a circuit with departure and arrival from the facilities of the San Carlos Campus of the Tecnológico de Costa Rica with spectacular views of the nature of the area and watched over by the imposing Arenal volcano.
|Time trial race
|The individual time trial modality is also, along with the road race, part of the Olympic program. Here, cyclists will have to travel between 40 and 50 kilometers to finish their route. Each one starts from the starting point in intervals of around 1 to 2 minutes and the winner will be decided based on who manages to make the shortest time to reach the finish line. The Individual Time Trial event will have a flat route in the San Jorge de la Fortuna sector in the way to the Arenal volcano and will be a very fast and fun circuit.
|Cross-country Olympics is a UCI World Cup race format that takes place on undulating circuits that include technical descents, forest roads, rocky roads and obstacles, in which riders must complete several laps. Routes should be as natural as possible, but they can also have man-made features. Riders start at the same time on a mass start, running between an hour and an hour and 40 minutes, depending on the category and the route. The XCO event will take place on the Campus track and will be very challenging, as well as having a lot of nature and obstacles in the different sectors of the course.
|The newest of the disciplines within the Cross Country modalities, introduced for the first time in the 2012 MTB World Championship and independently as an individual Championship in 2017. It is a race in which four riders face a short circuit, generally less than 2 kilometers, to compete in elimination rounds and thus qualify for the grand final. The course on the track of our campus is a very fast circuit with a great opportunity for the public to support and be able to observe all the competition.
