San Carlos, Costa Rica

The city of San Carlos is located in the province of Alajuela, 3 hours from Juan Santamaría International Airport. It is characterized by agricultural activities and tourism. The presence of the Arenal Volcano in the La Fortuna district makes San Carlos one of the most visited tourist destinations in Costa Rica.

San Carlos has a tropical climate, which means it is very humid, especially in mountainous areas.

Host: Costa Rica Institute of Technology

The Costa Rica Institute of Technology (TEC) is one of the 5 prestigious public universities in the country. The university has a presence in 5 campuses: Cartago, San José, Alajuela, Limón, and San Carlos, the city of the Championship.

TEC is dedicated to teaching, research, and extension of technology and related sciences.

The San Carlos Campus has a construction area of 35,500 square meters. This Campus has open classrooms, such as a butterfly garden, a herpetarium, dairy and livestock farms; with the aim of providing students with the same conditions as in the productive sector. Likewise, there is a forest where butterflies, frogs, armadillos, birds, monkeys, crocodiles, and deer coexist.

TEC hosted the FISU America Forum in 2020 and the FISU World Forum in 2022, and now prepares to welcome the more than # athletes who will participate in the Costa Rica 2024 FISU World University Championship Cycling.
